(HockeyStL) -- St. Louis Blues captain David Backes was not on the ice at the morning skate hours before his team begins Game 5 against the Los Angeles Kings.

While it sounds scary on paper, I would be surprised if Backes isn’t on the ice for the start of the game at 8 p.m. tonight considering he finished Game 4.

When asked if Backes is okay, Hitchcock replied, “You know not to comment on personnel.”

It has been regular to see players rest for what some call a “maintenance day” during this condensed NHL season.

Backes has registered only one goal in the four games played against the Kings this series.
