Two explosive offenses took the field for this Class 5 Sectional at the neutral site of Ritenour High School.

Hazelwood East took the opening kickoff and drove the ball 58 yards for a touchdown in just two plays.  Senior running back Randy Patterson scored on a 37 yard run for the Spartans and it was off to the races in what would be a high scoring affair for both teams.

Chaminade answered with a 65 yard drive of their own, capped by a 10 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Christian Suntrup to wide receiver Giovanni Ferrara.  This combination of Suntrup to Ferrara would team up for two more scores in the first quarter to give the Red Devils an early lead.

Hazelwood East would respond with 5 touchdowns on runs of 55 and 53 yards by Trey Perry, a 51 yard run by Patterson, and passes of 65 and 25 yards from quarterback Trey Hill to Patterson and Carlton Baily respectively.

The Spartans took a 40 to 28 lead into halftime.

The third quarter saw Chaminade turn the ball over three times on two fumbles and an interception.  Hazelwood East converted two of those over to touchdowns and added to their lead which stood at 54 to 28 at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Red Devils attempted a comeback by scoring 2 touchdowns by their star running back Rob Standard, who would carry the ball 36 times for 220 yards in the contest.  Chaminade scored a third touchdown on a quarterback sneak by Suntrup and with 4:41 left in the game the Spartan's lead was trimmed to 54 to 49.

Hazelwood East would then score a final touchdown, which consumed the majority of the clock, and the Spartans won in a wild one 60 to 49.
