EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- The oversight body of Illinois high school athletics has ended its probe of residency issues involving certain East St. Louis Senior High football players and has reinstated an athlete who had been the school's star running back.
The Illinois High School Association cleared Anthony Pierson Jr. to take part in Flyer athletics. He'd been suspended since October while questions about his residency were sorted out.
Pierson had transferred at the beginning of the current academic year from St. Louis' Gateway Tech. But the IHSA say Pierson is living within the East St. Louis school system's boundaries.
Another Flyer football player had been found to be living outside of district, forcing the Flyers to forfeit their first five wins of the regular season and be bounced from the 2010 state playoffs.
