(KMOV) – St. Louis may soon be the host of college basketball’s biggest event.
The city is one of eight finalists to host the NCAA Men’s Final Four basketball tournament for 2017 to 2020, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee announced Monday.
The locations for those four Final Fours will be announced in November.
Along with St. Louis, the other finalists are Atlanta, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New Orleans, North Texas, Phoenix and San Antonio.
St. Louis hosted the Final Four in 1973, 1978 and 2005.
“The committee and staff have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of bids, the level of detail and the incredible enthusiasm that the individuals behind each bid have demonstrated thus far in the process,” said Dan Gavitt, the NCAA vice president for men’s basketball.
Completed bids are due in May, and the committee will spend the summer reviewing each bid before making site visits to each finalist city in August, September and October.
Representatives from each finalist city will make in-person presentations to the committees during their annual fall meetings in early November 2014 in Indianapolis. The winning bids will be announced later that month.
