ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Yes, the Cardinals defense was brutal today. Yes, the pitching has had it’s share of hiccups. And yes, the Cardinals offense has great overall numbers in 2011. But you can’t just excuse the lack of timely hitting the Cards have displayed recently.

They ar 1-5 sicne the All Star break. They’ve scored just 12 runs in those five losses. This offense is going to have to bust out again for the Cardinals to make the playoffs.

I may be wrong this time about the Pirates. They don’t look like a team ready to fall out of the race. This time last season the Pirates had already begun their swoon. They are hammering the baseball, have a superstar in Andrew McCutcheon and have a really good bullpen.

I said it on the 6pm sportscast tonight—I predict Mizzou will go 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference in the Tigers first season in the SEC. It is a step up in competition for sure. The SEC is without doubt the best conference in the country. A bowl game appearance and a winning record will do just fine in a transition year.
