CLEVELAND (AP) — Michael Brantley hit a pair of solo homers last night as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-3. Justin Masterson earned the win after allowing two runs and striking out eight over six-plus innings. Eric Hosmer and David Lough each had three hits for the Royals.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jake Westbrook pitched seven innings of two-hit ball last night to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the Chicago Cubs 4-1. Yadier Molina hit a two-run homer and Allen Craig added an RBI single for the Cardinals. Cubs starter Edwin Jackson took the loss after giving up four runs in five-plus innings.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Cardinals have agreed to terms with their top pick from the Major League Baseball draft earlier this month. Pitcher Marco Gonzales was taken 19th overall. Terms of the contract weren't disclosed. He earned the 2012 West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year and was a Golden Spike finalist.
BOSTON (AP) — Brent Seabrook's overtime goal lifted the Chicago Blackhawks to a 6-5 win over the Boston Bruins last night and evened the Stanley Cup finals at 2-2. Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Marcus Kruger each added a goal in the second period for the Blackhawks. Boston's Johnny Boychuk netted the game-tying goal in the third period. Game 5 of the best-of-seven series is Saturday night.
