KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez hit a two-run triple last night to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2. Starter Jeremy Guthrie pitched six-plus solid innings to lead the Royals to their sixth straight victory. Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera hit his 18th home run of the year.

KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) — The Royals have signed first-round draft pick Hunter Dozier for $2.2 million. The 21-year-old shortstop led the Southland Conference with a .396 batting average, .755 slugging percentage and 17 home runs for Stephen F. Austin. Dozier will head to the team's complex in Arizona for a minicamp.

NEW YORK (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals begins a three-game series tonight against the Mets in New York. Michael Wacha will take the mound for the Cardinals, while the Mets will start Jeremy Hefner. St. Louis is coming off a series victory against the Cincinnati Reds.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State advanced to the College World Series last night with a 4-3 win over Kansas State in the finale of the Corvallis super regional. Danny Hayes homered and Kavin Kayes added an RBI double for the Beavers. Blair DeBord had two hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats.
