Life is pretty good for Rams defensive end Robert Quinn right about now.  All year long he’s been one of the best pass rushers in the entire league.  Then Sunday against the Buccaneers he registers three sacks (the third time he’s done that this season) and brings his total to 18.

Why is that number significant, you ask?

Well, before today former Ram Kevin Carter held the record for most sacks in a season in St. Louis Rams history.  He had 17.  That means Quinn is now the franchise’s single season sack king.

“It’s a great honor,” Quinn said. “Kevin Carter was a great player. He had 17 sacks, it’s tough. To even top that is even tougher. I can’t do it by myself. Chris (Long) was like, ‘You’ve done a lot by yourself.’ But like I said, there’s no way you can get that many sacks by yourself throughout a year. So, a lot of credit goes to my d-line and defense that helped me get to that number. Like I keep saying, the man upstairs has been great, can’t ask for anymore than that.”

Quinn was carried off the field by fellow defensive line teammates Chris Long and William Hayes.

“It was awesome and it was awesome to be able to do that and to do it at home. It was really special,” Chris Long. “At first I thought, ‘Alright we’ll go get it (the franchise single-season sack record) next week for you.’ They tried to chip us. They tried to do all this stuff. They tried to do everything under the sun to him and he just kept coming and made the play and now he’s a record holder. That was fun.”

“What can you say about Rob? Very impressive when you take into consideration the history of this organization – and the defensive linemen, the pass rushers, and the Fearsome Foursome, all of that stuff – and for him to set the single-season franchise sack record was pretty impressive. Happy for him,” Jeff Fisher said.

Quinn still has one more game to go to get his total even higher.  He had three sacks the last time the Rams played Seattle so it’s not out of the question for him to reach 20.  Either way, it’s been one special season for the former first round pick.
