(Football StL) -- The Rams figure to get a lot better by the weekend.
Based on what the Jeff Fisher-Les Snead regime did last year, I have no doubt they’ll use their draft picks on guys that can help in 2013. They own two first-round picks and I would bet they’re more likely to trade down than trade up. That is, unless they are enamored with a guy like West Virginia wide receiver Tavon Austin. He’s my favorite playmaker in the draft. But, I doubt he’s there when the Rams pick 16th overall.
I could see the Rams using one of those first-round picks on the best available guard or tackle as well. And I’d have no issue if they use one of those picks on a defensive tackle like Mizzou’s Sheldon Richardson. You cannot have too many impact linemen.
The Rams need safety help too. But I’m not sure they can’t get a starter in round two. It’s a deep safety draft. For the record, my favorite at that position is Florida’s Matt Elam.
But keep in mind, the Rams think highly of young safeties Matt Daniels and Rodney McCleod. That could impact their draft weekend decisions.
