(FootballStL) -- For the first time in his career, Steven Jackson will be a member of a team that isn’t the St. Louis Rams.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jackson reached an agreement with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday afternoon.

The 29-year-old running back voided his contract with the Rams to become a free agent this offseason. Last season, Jackson rushed for 1,042 yards, four touchdowns and did not record a fumble in 257 rushing attempts and 38 receptions.

In nine seasons with the Rams, Jackson rushed for 10,135 yards and 56 touchdowns. He also had eight receiving touchdowns.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke issued the following statement on Jackson's departure:

“For nearly a decade, Steven Jackson served as an inspiration for his St. Louis Rams teammates and our fans as he became our franchise’s all-time leading rusher. Off the field, his generosity and unselfishness improved the lives of many families in the St. Louis community. We will always be thankful for his contributions to our team and region and wish him success moving forward.”

Jackson has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in eight consecutive seasons.
