(FootballSTL) -- When Danny Amendola left St. Louis for New England, a hole was left in the Rams wide receiver corps. Amendola’s departure also meant that Sam Bradford lost his favorite target. After Sunday’s 34-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, it looks like Austin Pettis has now emerged as Bradford’s go-to guy.
Pettis caught 4 passes for 49 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Rams victory over the Jags.
The 3rd year man out of Boise State came up with the first multi-touchdown game of his career.
Meanwhile, Pettis and Bradford have developed a bond that’s helping the Rams offense move the chains.
“You can’t’ say enough good things about Austin Pettis’, said Bradford. “I’ve said it since OTA’s. I think he’s our most dependable. He’s so smart; you can put him all over the field. He knows every route that everyone’s supposed to run and I trust him because I know that he’s going to see things the right way and he’s going to be in the right spot.”
It was the second touchdown catch by Pettis that sealed the deal over the Jags late in the 4th quarter.
Pettis got away from Will Blackmon for the clinching score to cap off an 80 yard drive. The 4 yard TD catch by Pettis at the end of the first half finished a 12 play, 90 yard drive for a 24-10 Rams lead.
“It was nice”, said Pettis. “Honestly, we, offensively, just wanted to come out and be more productive than we had been and put some points on the board and fortunately we were able to do that today.”
The Rams had trailed by double digits in every game this season. However, Pettis said the Rams offense needed to establish a quicker tempo early in future games.
“I think confidence wise just for the offense, to see us come out early in the game and be able to move the ball and put points on the board was something that we had been hoping for the past couple weeks”, said Pettis. “We finally put it together.”
