(FootballStL) -- While Rams players are enjoying a break from training camp today, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer continues to examine a unit that has the potential to score points in a hurry.
“We had a team back with the Jets that was pretty fast with Santanio Holmes and Braylon Edwards and those guys,” said Schottenheimer. “But this is probably the fastest unit I’ve been around.”
The addition of free agent tight end Jared Cook and the drafting of speedy wide-out Tavon Austin, sent a clear signal that the Rams were committed to adding firepower to Sam Bradford’s arsenal.
In order to help Bradford succeed, the Rams needed to improve an offense that struggled for points all last season. Here’s how the Rams ranked in the NFL:
Points Per Game. 18.7. (25th)
Yards Per Game. 329. (23rd)
Passing Yards Per Game. 222.9. (18th)
Schottenheimer envisions more of a quicker strike attack, using more hurry up and no huddle. Bradford thrived in that system during his Heisman Trophy days at Oklahoma.
“The thing that’s been fun is you not only have a fast group, but a group that is really buying into the details, the angles of the releases, the splits , stuff like that .”said Schottenheimer. “A good passing game is one that’ detail oriented. “
