(Football StL) -- Rob Ryan must have really flunked his last job interview.
It appeared that he was all but ready to be introduced as the Rams new defensive coordinator. The Rams are saying that Ryan and Jeff Fisher had differences in defensive philosophy.
It had to be more than that. After talking with Ryan for two weeks, the Rams had to know his defensive philosophy. The guy has been a d coordinator in the league for nine years. Ryan has an oversized personality.
I'm guessing the Rams decided they didn't want to deal with that, more than any difference of opinion on how a defense should be run.
So who do they get now? The guess here is that Dick Jauron will be the guy. He's the polar opposite of Ryan in personality, but Jauron has extensive experience as a defensive coordinator.
He was recently fired by the Cleveland Browns in house cleaning there. He's had stints as head coach with the Detroit, Chicago and Buffalo. He was the AP coach of the year with the Bears in 2001. Jeff Fisher hasn't hesitated to try to hire big personalities for his assistant coaches (Ryan, Gregg Williams, Chuck Cecil).
Jauron doesn't fit the mold, but he'd be a veteran coaching presence who could possibly make an improving Rams defense even better than it was this past season.
