(FootballStL) -- You would imagine that it would have been a St. Louis media outlet to first spew out the rumor that the Rams will go after Jeff Fisher or Jon Gruden if the team fires Steve Spagnuolo, but it wasn’t.
Kevin Acee, a writer from the San Diego Union-Tribune, believes that owner Stan Kroenke will fire Spagnuolo and General Manager Billy Devaney at the end of this season and will look to hire Jeff Fisher or Jon Gruden. Sources also believe the Rams will go after Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith to become the team’s new general manager.
The Rams gig could be one of the best open positions around the league if Spagnuolo and Devaney both get shoved out the door. The team will have cap space available to make moves and already have a “franchise quarterback” with Sam Bradford.
Sources speculate that Gruden and Fisher would be open to the idea of returning to coach in 2012.
Fisher is 142-120 as a head coach from 1994-2010 with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans. He was beaten by the Rams in the Super Bowl in 1999.
Gruden is 95-81 as a head coach from 1998-2008 with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won a Super Bowl in his first year as coach of the Buccaneers in 2002.
