(FootballStL) -- The Rams hit an absolute home run in the first round of the NFL draft. After coming into this night with two picks at 16 and 22, they move up to get the offensive weapon they wanted (Tavon Austin) and moved back to get the defensive force they coveted (Alec Ogletree).
The ILB from Georgia is a downright star as a linebacker and is built like NFL linebackers should be built. At 6'2", 242 lbs and with a 4.55 speed in the 40-yard dash he is the prototypical athlete teams covet. He'll line up on the strong side of the Rams linebacker group alongside MLB James Laurinaitis and WLB Jo-Lonn Dunbar.
Ogletree has had some off the field baggage (DUI in 2013, suspended for unspecified team rules in 2012, arrested for theft in 2010) so he's similar to taking CB Janoris Jenkins last year. But if the Rams can get Laurinaitis and Dunbar to get him to stay on a good path and mature as an NFL player, they could have a super star.
So going into tomorrow's 2nd and 3rd rounds...the Rams can now target safety, running back and possibly more offensive line. From a talent perspective in round one? They have absolutely hit a home run.
