(FootballStL) - The recent news that Rams owner Stan Kroenke purchased 60 acres of land in the Inglewood, California area has fans in St. Louis scared out of their minds.  And, truthfully, no one can possibly blame them.  If the billionaire was intent on moving the franchise from St. Louis to Los Angeles this would be the first step he would take.

You need land in order to build a stadium - obviously.

But any rational person knows that this simple transaction doesn't guarantee anything.  Any rational person knows negotiations can be brutal and they're all about one thing.  Leverage.  If you have it you can get what you want a heck of a lot easier than if you don't.

By buying 60 acres of land near Los Angeles Stan Kroenke has given himself leverage.  Clearly, with the lease of the Edward Jones Dome coming up on a clause which allows them to opt out, he already had leverage.  But this gets the ball rolling even more.  It shows Kroenke is willing to take this a step further in getting what he wants out of the St. Louis CVC.

For what it's worth, Kroenke Organizations did release a statement on the matter.

"As real estate developers, the Kroenke Organizations are involved in numerous real estate deals across the country and North America. While we can confirm media reports that we recently purchased land in Inglewood, as a private company we don't typically discuss our plans for commercial or residential investments. We have yet to decide what we are going to do with the property but we will look at all options, as we do with all of our properties," the statement read.

That says, well, nothing.  Of course Stan Kroenke buys land for a living.  Of course Stan Kroenke won't discuss publicly their plans for different developments.  Of course Stan Kroenke will say he hasn't decided what to with this particular property in Inglewood.

The statement told us nothing.  Nor should we have expected it too.

I have a hard time believing this land purchase was made without the Rams in mind.  It had to have something to do with football.  They didn't buy it just to put up a shopping mall.

Is Kroenke set on moving the Rams to Los Angeles?  Is he using this land to get the St. Louis CVC moving on upgrading or replacing the Edward Jones Dome?

No one knows.  Only Stan does.
