(FootballSTL) -- Even though Tavon Austin was the smallest player on the field for the Rams scrimmage at the Dome, the rookie wide-out received some of the biggest ovations from the crowd at Fan Fest. The 8th overall pick of the NFL Draft dazzled the 15,000 on hand.
Austin not only displayed his quickness, but he also showed his ability to accelerate past defenders and stop on a dime. “He’s got a lot of ability, and he can do a lot of different things “said Head Coach Jeff Fisher. “ Whether we continue that stuff in the regular season, I don’t know, but it’s kind of fun to play around with.
Austin was used in a variety of formations on offense during the scrimmage, as well as special teams. Austin also took a handoff out of the backfield.
Will the Rams use Austin out of the backfield during the regular season? “You’re going to have to come out watch and see,“ said Fisher. “He is versatile, as you say, and obviously there’s things that everybody does across the league in camp that they don’t show until the regular season”.
