(Missouri Football App) – The offense may not be able to handle the SEC pressure just yet, but the Tiger defense has outperformed expectations; and Sheldon Richardson is leading the charge.
Despite the national media only mentioning his comments on Georgia’s “old man football,” Richardson is showing opponents he’s more than just media day entertainment.
Richardson’s 24 tackles through four games is second on the team and tops among defensive linemen in the SEC.
Against South Carolina, he dominated the first quarter with a sack, a hurry and a forced fumble. He ended the contest with seven tackles.
Missouri’s defense wore down against South Carolina, mainly because they couldn’t get off the field for more than two minutes at a time. Throughout the contest, Richardson was a part of nearly every play, echoing is nine-tackle effort against ASU.
So with all the talk of the SEC sporting NFL-caliber defensive lines, it seems Missouri’s defensive tackle is the best in show right now. Number two? Damontre Moore of Texas A&M (22 tackles in 3 games).
Maybe it’s beginner’s luck.
