The Salukis are still winless on the season, but showed signs of improvement in the first half against No. 22 Vanderbilt.

The SIU basketball team lost to Vanderbilt 90-64 Wednesday at the SIU Arena. Vanderbilt improved to 2-0 with the win and SIU fell to 0-2 for the first time since the 04-05 season.

The key to SIU being competitive could have been in freshman guard Katerina Garcia making her season debut for the team. Head coach Missy Tiber had said the team was lacking a true point guard with the freshman injured.

Tiber said Garcia’s debut went well.
