UNDATED (AP) — The top three teams in The Associated Press football poll are in action today but none is facing what looks to be a real challenge. No. 1 Alabama is on the road for a game at Mississippi State this evening, while this afternoon second-ranked Florida State is playing Syracuse and third-ranked Ohio State is playing at Illinois.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Qualifying for the second annual U.S. Grand Prix is being held today in Austin, Texas. The winner of the first race a year ago was Lewis Hamilton but all eyes are once again on four-time defending Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel. The F1 season comes to an end next week in Brazil.

LEVI, Finland (AP) — American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin has won the World Cup slalom opener in Finland. The 18-year-old had led by half a second after the first run.

UNDATED (AP) — A check of Top-10 AP basketball action for the men shows No. 17 Marquette is playing host to 10th-ranked Ohio State. Ninth-ranked Syracuse is the highest-ranked team in action. The Orange are home to Colgate.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) — The third round is on tap today in the LPGA's Lorena Ochoa (lohr-AY'-nah oh-CHOH'-uh) Invitational. There was a three-way tie for first at the end of play yesterday. One shot back is a trio that includes Lexi Thompson, Inbee Park and Gerina Piller.
