JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Raeford Worsham scored five of his eight points in a late flurry that helped Arkansas State rally past Jacksonville State 65-61 on Monday night.
In a little over two minutes, Worsham grabbed an offensive rebound and scored a layup to pull the Red Wolves within two, scored again to tie the game at 56-56 and hit a free throw to extend the lead to five points after Melvin Johnson III propelled Arkansas State into the lead with a 3-pointer at 2:03 remaining.
After the teams went into halftime tied, Jacksonville State opened the second half on a 9-0 run and never trailed until Worsham and Johnson stepped up late. Cameron Golden led the Red Wolves (1-0) with 16 points, Kirk Van Slyke had 14 and Johnson 13.
Brandon West led Jackson State with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Julysses Nobles added 13 points, Jeffrey Stubbs 12 and Javeres Brent 11.
