KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Mike Aviles (ah-VEE'-lihs) hit a three-run homer and had a career-high five RBIs as the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals ten-to-three last night in a day-night doubleheader. The Royals' Jeremy Guthrie shut down Cleveland in a nine-to-nothing victory in the opener.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Rookie Jeff Locke pitched seven innings of three-hit ball and Russell Martin added two of Pittsburgh's four home runs yesterday as the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals nine-to-nothing. The Cardinals got just three singles and advanced two runners into scoring position against the 25-year-old left-hander.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Blues are getting ready to face the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow in the first round of the NHL playoffs. The Blues surged this month to secure home-ice advantage in the first round. But their 11-and-two mark in the final month also put them into a matchup with perhaps their biggest nemesis.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals closer Jason Motte says he plans to play catch today unless there's a setback as the deadline nears for the team to decide whether he can pitch with a partially torn ligament in his elbow. The Cardinals have said that if his condition hadn't improved by the beginning of May, he'll likely undergo reconstructive surgery.
