AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Eight berths in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA men's basketball tournament are up for grabs today. Michigan and VCU are up first (12:15 p.m. Eastern). The Wolverines and Rams are playing a South Regional at The Palace of Auburn Hills, where Michigan State and Memphis will play a Midwest Regional game later today.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Today's third-round play at the Arnold Palmer Invitational got under way this morning with Justin Rose and Bill Haas sharing a one-stroke lead over John Huh. Tiger Woods was four off the pace with 36 holes to play.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Beatriz Recari is the leader by a stroke headed into the third round of the LPGA's Kia Classic in California. The Brazilian is 8-under par at the halfway mark. American Paula Creamer and Australian Karrie (KAH'-ree) Webb are tied for second at the halfway mark.

COMMERCE, Colo. (AP) — The U.S. men's soccer team beat Costa Rica 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier played on a snow-covered field near Denver. The U.S. extended its home unbeaten streak in qualifying to 23 games over a dozen years.

SEPANG, Malaysia (AP) — Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel grabbed the pole for a second time in as many Formula One qualifying sessions this year and will lead the field to the green flag for tomorrow's Malaysian Grand Prix. The three-time defending series champion edged Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso. Vettel finished third in last week's Australian Grand Prix.
