CHICAGO (BaseballStL) -- Two days after being called up from Springfield, left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes made his debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in a wild game at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Friday.
Fuentes entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with an 8-6 lead. He threw 13 pitches, eleven of which for strikes, while striking out two batters and getting another to pop up to Rafael Furcal.
The Cardinals signed the 36-year-old reliever twelve days ago to a minor league contract. Fuentes was released by the Oakland Athletics on July 11 after posting a 2-2 record with a 6.84 ERA and was 5-for-8 in save opportunities in 26 appearances.
