The St. Louis Cardinals are footing a massive bill for new security requirements at Busch Stadium.

The purchase comes just months after Major League Baseball told its 30 teams they must implement security screening for fans by 2015, either with hand-held metal detection or walk-through magnetometers.

As a result, the Cardinals are buying about 50 metal detectors and installing them at gates around Busch Stadium. The total price tag will range between $250,000 and $500,000.

The team will begin adding the security within the next month.

The Seattle Mariners have already begun making fans walk through metal detectors upon entering Safeco Field. Boston, the New York Mets, Oakland, Pittsburgh and San Francisco were among teams that experimented with screening at times last year.
