(BaseballStL) -- One day after belting two home runs in a 7-1 win over the Oakland Athletics, Matt Adams was forced out of the starting lineup due to food poisoning prior to Sunday’s series finale.
It’s unfortunate timing for Adams who was finally able to make starts while playing in the DH-friendly American League parks this week. The team will travel to play against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for a three-game series on Tuesday.
Adams collected his first multi-home run game of his career, and drove in four runs and scored three runs en route to Saturday’s victory. He entered Sunday's game as a pinch hitter and struck out with St. Louis down by two runs with one out and no runners on base in the ninth inning.
In limited duty, Adams is batting .320 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 97 at-bats over 43 games.
Ty Wigginton made the start in place of the ill-stricken Adams.
