(BaseballStL) -- It is the calm before the storm in Jupiter, Florida. Crews are scurrying around Roger Dean Stadium getting everything in place for the arrival of pitchers and catchers this weekend.

Truth be told, some players have already been here for a few days working out and getting an early start.

By time position players start rolling in next weekend spring training 2012 will be in full gear.

There is something special about spring training. The photos and video from Florida always look a little brighter and bolder. There is an optimism that permeates each interview as everyone feels like they have a shot. Players are loose, it’s fun.

Despite their miracle run to the championship last year, there are a lot of questions surrounding this Cardinals team.

How will they react to a new manager?

Can they make up for the power drain of Albert Pujols’ departure?

Will Wainwright come back stronger than before?

Will this team be able to stay healthy?

How will the rotation perform without Dave Duncan’s guidance?

Have they improved enough to stay out front in the Central?

And finally, they are up against history as teams just don’t repeat that often.

The “experts” aren’t sold on the 2012 Cardinals. A quick scan of the pre-season power rankings and the Redbirds are near the top, but very few expect them to repeat. That’s OK since none of the “experts” picked the Cardinals before last season, at the All-Star break or even in August.

So we will all have to wait to see how things unfold. Our crew is already in Jupiter and we are not leaving until the regular season starts. Follow the latest news from Cards camp on the BaseballStL mobile app or the brand spanking new Go Cards! iPad app.

So let the fun begin, Play Ball!
