(KMOV) – A push to make Major League Baseball’s Opening Day a national holiday started in St. Louis, and now the idea is making its way to the White House.
Budweiser and Cardinal legend Ozzie Smith filed a petition on the proposal with the White House in late Feb. It has since gotten the necessary 100,000 signatures needed to gain White House consideration.
Videos promoting the campaign were released periodically throughout the past month as Budweiser tried to drive signatures to the White House website.
“Opening Day should be a holiday, let’s make it official,” the Hall of Fame shortstop said in a video posted to Budweiser’s website.
Baseball’s official opening day is March 31.
