(KMOV)-- It was roller coaster 2011 season for pitcher Chris Carpenter. The rightly began the year (1-7) with a 4.47 ERA, but closed out 2011 going (10-2) boasting a 2.73 ERA.
Carp won the Cy Young Award in 2005, but I wonder if last season's championship charge was the pinnacle of his career? During the postseason, Carp went (4-0) and won two of the three decisive games.
When healthy, Chris Carpenter has been known as a 'horse,' in the rotation; if you need prove just look back at the 2011 season. Last year, including the postseason, he threw a career high 273 1/3 innings, marking a career high. He also tossed over 4,000 pitches.
Also including the playoffs, Carp has thrown over 500 innings over the last two years. I mentioned that to Mike Matheny this morning and he questioned the stat because even he didn't think Carp threw that many innings.
I'm hoping to sit down and interview Carpenter tomorrow morning.
