JUPITER, Fla. (BaseballSTL) -- This Matt Carpenter at second base thing may be getting serious.

Carpenter will start at second base and bat second Wednesday afternoon when the Cardinals play the Miami Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium. The corner infielder and outfielder continues to get significant playing time at second base this spring as the club looks to get his bat into the lineup any way they can.

Dan Descalso, the other lead competitor for playing time at second base, will start at third base and hit seventh.

The Cardinals continue to downplay the significance of Allen Craig’s shoulder soreness but he has yet to play in the field this spring. He’ll again serve as the DH and hit cleanup.

Jake Westbrook will make his second start of the spring after being hit by a line drive in his leg and leaving his first start early.

The full Cardinals lineup:

Jon Jay, CF

Matt Carpenter, 2B

Matt Holliday, LF

Allen Craig, DH

Ty Wigginton, 3B

Oscar Taveras, RF

Daniel Descalso, 3B

Pete Kozma, SS

J.R. Towles, C

Jake Westbrook, P

Also scheduled to pitch Wednesday include Trevor Rosenthal, Eduardo Sanchez and Jason Motte.
