ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – It had been a while since Adam Wainwright had homered in a game – three years to be exact.  It had also been quite some time since the Cardinals scored a run off Mets starting pitcher R.A. Dickey – it was the first one in 12 innings pitched this season.

Wainwright crushed a solo shot that traveled 400 feet and trimmed the Mets lead to 2-1 in the third inning.  It was his first home run since August 14, 2009 against the Padres.  It was also the first time in Dickey’s career that he gave up a home run to another pitcher.

In his career, Wainwright has hit a total of six home runs which is fourth among active pitchers.  Carlos Zambrano leads active pitchers with 24 home runs.
