(BaseballStL) -- Maybe it's a ridiculous premise, but if the Cardinals could only use pitchers from the St. Louis area they could still piece together a decent starting rotation. Ok, yes, it's a very ridiculous premise. But I spend much of my life doing ridiculous things, so add this to the list.

Here's the starting rotation a team could employ using only players from the St. Louis area with their current stats:

1- Max Scherzer Parkway Central H.S. Detroit Tigers 15-1 3.01 era

2- Mark Buerhle Howell North H.S. Toronto Bluejays 6-7 5.01 era

3- David Phelps Hazelwood West H.S. New York Yankees 6-5 5.01 era

4- Ross Detwiler Holt H.S. Washington Nationals 2-7 4.04 era

5- Josh Outman Lindbergh H.S. Colorado Rockies 2-0 4.50 era

Most years, this wouldn't be a bad rotation. Scherzer is a legitimate ace.

Buerhle has been an all star in the past, and Detwiler has been much better than he's shown this year. He's been dogged with injuries.

Phelps has a lot of potential, just hasn't realized it yet.

Outman is a reliever with the Rockies but was used as a starter when he was with the A's. He'll have to start eating more innings as the 5th starter.

Jake Odorizzi of Highland, Illinois could be used as a spot starter.

I doubt this rotation would take a team to the postseason, unless of course David Freese and Ryan Howard of Lafayette H.S. both had HUGE years at the plate.
