(Baseball StL) – In a tragic and hilarious twist, the Lansing Lugnuts – class A affiliate of the Blue Jays- managed to hit a game winning single and still lose Monday night.

Watch the video here.

According to MiLB.com, in the bottom of the ninth, their game with the Great Lake Loons was tied 4-4. With the sacks jammed and two outs, Chris Hawkins singled up the middle to win the game. Or so he thought.

Lugnut players stormed out of the dugout to celebrate, and Hawkins was mobbed on the field. Unfortunately, amidst that celebratory jump hug was the runner on first, who in his excitement, never actually ran to second.

The Loons center fielder noticed this, and calmly tossed the ball in to second base. Because it was a force situation, the game-winning run didn’t count and the inning was over. Womp Womp.

Lansing would go on to lose the next inning 5-4.
