ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – It is supposed to be Adam Wainwright’s turn to toe the rubber on Wednesday night against the Reds, but it will be Shelby Miller who gets the nod, instead, as the Cardinals prepare for Friday’s wild-card game against the Braves.
Manager Mike Matheny told reporters after the Dodgers lost to the Giants, which secured the Cardinals spot in the postseason, that starter Kyle Lohse will start on Friday in Atlanta.
Miller, who will be making his first big league start Wednesday, was a September call-up for the Cardinals after posting an 11-10 record with a 4.74 ERA in 27 starts at Triple-A Memphis this season. He recorded 160 strikeouts in 136.2 innings pitched.
Since joining the big league squad, Miller has appeared in five games and has allowed two runs in 7.2 innings pitched.
