(BaseballStL) – As Carlos Beltran shops destinations for what will likely be the last stop in his long career, the Kansas City Royals appear to be a frontrunner in landing the eight-time All Star.

As first reported by the New York Post, Beltran returned to Kansas City over the weekend to meet with the team.

The Royals drafted Beltran in the second round in 1995. He debuted with the team in 1999, winning Rookie of the Year.

According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Beltran had a three-year, $48 million offer in hand Tuesday. At the time, he speculated it was from the Mariners who are expected to be aggressive in the offseason.

A few hours later, Olney tweeted that several teams were convinced the deal was from Kansas City.

The Cardinals offered Beltran a one year, $14.1 million deal in November; a qualifying offer designed to secure a draft pick in exchange for letting the aging slugger go.
