ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -- It might be due to postseason inexperience, too much energy or both, but Washington Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez threw 37 pitches in the second inning in Game 1 of the NLDS.
The odd thing is the Cardinals did not even get a hit during the inning. The Cardinals scored two runs in the second inning with the help of a wild pitch, sacrifice fly and four walks.
Through the first two innings, Gonzalez allowed two runs on no hits and five walks while throwing 55 pitches.
