(BaseballStL) -- Inching closer to securing the NL Central title, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina drove in the first two runs of the game, and set a career high in runs batted in, against the Cubs on Friday.

Molina’s two-run double, his 43rd double of the season, was part of a three-run first inning off Chicago starter Travis Wood, who was scheduled to pitch only the opening frame to reach an even 200 innings pitched for the first time in his career.

The two RBI gave Molina his 76th and 77th driven in this season, which surpassed his career-high 76 set last year.

Molina would score the third run of the inning on Jon Jay’s single to centerfield. The hit extended Jay’s hitting streak to a career-best 12 games.

He would add another RBI later in the game.
