(BaseballStL) -- St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has been named a finalist for the Gold Glove Award at the catching position. He has won the award each of the previous four seasons.
Molina threw out 35 would-be base stealers and committed only three errors in 136 games behind the plate this season.
In addition to the tremendous defensive work, he helped navigate the Cardinals pitching staff to the eighth-best earned run average in the majors.
Molina was also a force with a bat. He finished fourth in the National League with a .315 batting average and set career-highs in hits (159), home runs (22) and runs batted in (76).
Carlos Ruiz and Miguel Montero are the other finalists at the catching position in the NL.
