(BaseballStL) -- When it rains, it pours. The St. Louis Cardinals might be without All-Star catcher Yadier Molina for some time due to an injury suffered in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.
Molina left the game after the third inning with a right knee strain. He was replaced by Rob Johnson.
Molina, who went for 0-for-2 before leaving the game, is hitless in his last six at-bats and is 3-for-17 on the road trip.
After the game Molina said he would likely be out more than at least 15 days. The leading hitter in the National League and gold glover catcher planned to return to St. Louis Wednesday morning to meet with a team doctor.
The knee had been bothersome for Molina earlier in July, but he hasn’t seemed fazed by it recently. He started the first 10 games since the All-Star break prior to having Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader off.
