(BaseballSTL) -- Across Major League Baseball, today marks the first day teams can start using the instant replay system in spring training games.  There are only a few times this spring that system will be available.

Today marks the first one.

“I’ve been trying to be aggressive with them as we’ve gone along but there haven’t really been any opportunities,” manager Mike Matheny said. “I would imagine we’ll get out there a little bit today.”

The Cards have been trying to simulate it for several day now without having the benefit of actually using a replay in games.  They believe they’re ready to officially put it to the test now.

“We’re going to have people inside watching the monitors,” Matheny said. “The mechanics of going out and having communication with the bench.  It’s just going to move a little slower at first as we get used to it.  When I go out for this challenge to work properly you have to tell them exactly what it is that they’re challenging.  We’ve been (simulating) that but there’s no replacing the real thing.”
