(BaseballStL) — In a spot start for the Cardinals Monday, Tyler Lyons reprised his early 2013 appearances.
The 26-year-old went six innings, striking out seven and surrendering six hits. He threw 95 pitches, 56 for strikes and was ahead of 16 of his 28 batters with a first pitch strike.
The two runs he surrendered came in the third and the sixth, when a hit batsman and an error led to trouble in the respective innings.
Lyons started strong in 2013 as well, going seven innings in his first two starts, allowing one run in each contest.
He could remain with the club through the duration of Kelly’s DL time, allowing him to get a few more MLB starts under his belt.
