JUPITER, Fla -- Lance Lynn's second-last start of spring training before the regular season begins is, to him, a step in the right direction. His 6.62 ERA in Grapefruit League play isn't anything fans would get excited about but Lynn believes he's right on track for the year.
The righty went five and two-thirds innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while strike out five and walking two. He had one word to describe it.
"Better," Lynn explained before going further. "That's all you hope for at this time moving towards the season. Feel better with the ball coming out of your hand. My breaking stuff felt a lot better, which is something we've been working on. It was good."
Lynn is expected to pitch the third game of the season - game three in Arizona - following Adam Wainwright and Jaime Garcia. Jake Westbrook likely will pitch the fourth game - the first in San Francisco. Whoever wins the final spot in the rotation, either Shelby Miller or Joe Kelly, could go next or the Cardinals could elect to skip them due to an early off day.
