(BaseballStL) -- It had been awhile since Jon Jay created a defensive blunder -- 245 games to be exact.

That streak ended in the bottom of the fifth inning in the first game of a doubleheader when Starling Marte advanced to second base after Jay botched handling the ground ball. It was his first error since August 24, 2011.

The two-out error wouldn’t result in a run as Lance Lynn got Neil Walker to fly out to Jay for the third out in the next at-bat.

The Cardinals would end up losing the game 2-1 in 11 innings.
