ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – The Cardinals cannot afford to lose another first baseman to an injury after placing Lance Berkman on the disabled list earlier this month.  Now the team will have to be without his replacement, Allen Craig, due to soreness in his chest near his ribs, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

John Mozeliak addressed reporters prior to Wednesday’s game against the Giants and stated that he doesn’t believe Craig will miss an extended period of time after X-Rays did not reveal any structural damage.

Craig is available to pinch hit and could start Thursday’s finale at Busch Stadium.  He has hit safely in his last five games played.
