(BaseballStL) – Cardinals manager Mike Matheny confirms that Matt Holliday is in the lineup for Game 7 after missing Game 6 with back issues.
“They have been working on him nonstop and he feels much better and we are confident that he will not just be out there he will be productive,” Matheny said in his pregame news conference.
Matheny said he has spent the day with Holliday and he has no doubt that Holliday is ready.
"I feel completely comfortable that he is going to be in there and do something to help us win."
"Matt Holliday is ready," Matheny said to close the news conference.
The Cardinals could go into a decisive Game 7 without one of their most potent offensive weapons. Matt Holliday was a late scratch prior to Game 6 due to pain in his back and he may not be back for Game 7.
Manager Mike Matheny says Holliday’s condition only got worse through the evening on Sunday.
“His back tightened up, even a little bit more as we went through the game,” said Matheny in his post-game comments.

“We have some depth, to be able to throw a Matt Carpenter in there, we feel like we've got a viable option, and somebody that can be productive. But Matt's been our three hole hitter all season long, which is something that has been very productive for us, but somebody else has to step up,” said Matheny.
With Holliday hurt and Carlos Beltran working on a bum knee, pitcher Kyle Lohse says the injuries are nothing new.
“All year we've played without Chris Carpenter, Lance Berkman was a guy that was supposed to be big for us and we've barely seen him. We're used to dealing with adversity as far as health goes. And we don't go around feeling sorry for ourselves, because no one else is going to feel sorry for us. That doesn't really help,” said Lohse.
“I think mentally you saw when Beltran went out, Matt Carpenter hit that home run a couple of games ago. I think that's the attitude we have in the clubhouse is somebody goes down somebody has to pick that guy up.”
