(BaseballStL) -- It comes as little surprise, but St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday was not in the lineup against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon.
Holliday suffered a hamstring injury trying to beat out a ground ball hit to the shortstop in the fourth inning of a 3-0 loss to the Cubs on Thursday. He was replaced by Allen Craig in left field as Matt Adams entered the game to play first base.
With the All-Star break looming, it appears the team is not ready to place Holliday on the disabled list. The Cardinals outfielder is hoping the time off will aid his return from the tightness felt in his right hamstring in the meantime.
Holliday posted a .268 batting average with 13 home runs and 47 RBI in 83 games played this season. This is the first season he has not been named to the All-Star team since 2009.
