ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – Major League Baseball announced Matt Holliday as the Cardinals’ nominee for the 2012 Roberto Clemente Award.

Holliday is one of 30 finalists for the annual award which recognizes a Major League Baseball player who best represents the game of baseball through contributions on and off the field.  The award is named for Clemente, a 15-time All-Star and Hall of Famer, who died in a plane crash while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua in 1972.

Former Cardinals Albert Pujols, Ozzie Smith and Lou Brock have previously won the award.
