(BaseballStL) -- The St. Louis Cardinals could be without Matt Holliday for a period of time after the outfielder injured his right leg in the series opener against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

Holliday grabbed the back of his right leg as he was running to first base on a ground ball hit to the shortstop. Unable to complete the run to first base, a trainer tended to Holliday as he made his way back to the dugout.

The injury is considered “right hamstring tightness,” which will likely be monitored by the team for the rest of this four-game series against the Cubs and through the All-Star break which begins on Monday.

Matt Adams entered the game to play first base as Allen Craig shifted to play left field for the bottom half of the fourth inning as a result of Holliday’s injury.

Holliday is batting .268 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI this season.
