SAN FRANCISCO (BaseballStL) -- Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera has been reinstated after sitting out the last 50 games for violating the league’s drug policy and the team is sticking with what it stated last month: Cabrera will not play this postseason.
Cabrera hit .346 with eleven home runs and 60 RBIs prior to being suspended on August 15. He was also named the MVP of the All-Star game a month prior.
Following the positive drug test, Cabrera disqualified himself in the batting average race which allowed the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera to win the Triple Crown.
Cabrera has a career .222 batting average in 19 games against the Cardinals.
The Giants and Cardinals will play Game 1 of the NLCS at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
