ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – Brian Fuentes didn’t even step foot on a pitcher’s mound before ‘feeling the love’ shortly after being called up from Springfield on Wednesday.
A couple of tweets from Fuentes (@teetofuentes) say it all:
“Excited to officially become a St Louis Cardinal today. Back in the bigs back in the hunt and burning my laundry loop!!”
“Feeling the St Louis love already. There is a reason they known for having the best fan support in baseball.#thanksforthesupport”
The Cardinals signed the 36-year-old reliever ten days ago to a minor league contract. Fuentes was released by the Oakland Athletics on July 11 after posting a 2-2 record with a 6.84 ERA and was 5-for-8 in save opportunities in 26 appearances.
Fuentes definitely doesn’t seem bitter about his release from the A’s after tweeting the following on Saturday:
“How bout them swinging A’s!! Happy to c ex team killing it. I can do that I am in NL now right?#keepitupboyz”
To make room for Fuentes, the Cardinals optioned Victor Marte to Memphis. The team now has three left-handers in the bullpen (Fuentes, Barret Browning and Marc Rzepczynski).
